Dock is a veteran with a service-related disability. Last month, he tragically lost his wife and sweetheart of 47 years to cancer. “She didn’t want to worry me, so she kept [her diagnosis] to herself,” he said. Dock had very little time to prepare and is still trying to process the sudden loss.
In the weeks following his wife’s passing, the least of Dock’s worries should have been his home energy bill. But sweltering summer temperatures made the cost unmanageable. Even worse, some days his home’s aging HVAC unit wouldn’t work at all.
Sponsors Wells Fargo and Duke Energy were instrumental in making major safety and efficiency modifications to Dock’s home, including windows, insulation, and HVAC.
“It’s a big blessing, especially right now,” said Dock. “I’m just grateful.”
