Michelle has lived in her South Raleigh home for decades. For more than 30 years, she worked at the State Personnel office. Michelle loved her job, but when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in 2016, Michelle retired to care for her. She also took on significant caregiving responsibilities for her aunt, who also was ill, and for her young grandson.

Although Michelle traded her 40-hour per week responsibilities for an even bigger role at home, she was grateful for the opportunity to care for her family. Unfortunately, Michelle’s home did not cooperate with her transition to retirement.

Maintenance projects she had hoped to complete in retirement had to be put off, and other repair issues cropped up. Her water supply line developed a leak, which flooded the crawlspace and created serious subfloor issues. Even before the leak, her yard’s grading had caused problems with moisture running toward the house and ending up in the crawlspace. Additionally, the gutters and several windows needed to be replaced, along with exterior trim.  Moisture and rot had taken their toll.

Michelle waited patiently on our waiting list for more than two years for resources to be matched with her project. Finally, with financial and volunteer support from the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and the  Triangle Sales and Marketing Council, RTT made critical home repairs to keep Michelle and her family safe and healthy.
