Born in 1918, Mr. Foushee is a World War II Navy veteran who has lived through pandemics, the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, and the loss of his beloved wife of 71 years. He has lived in his Chapel Hill home since it was built nearly 75 years ago in 1947. Remarkably, he still lives independently, using only a walker for mobility.
Mr. Foushee’s home needed basic exterior maintenance and safety upgrades including a new back deck. Some interior work already had been completed by our partners with the Orange County Home Preservation Coalition. We were able to complete Mr. Foushee’s project by finishing the much-needed exterior repairs including a new back deck and new handrails for his front porch.
It’s an absolute honor to serve this hero of our nation’s greatest generation. This project is one of four local home repairs sponsored by the #VeteransAtHome grant funding program of our Rebuilding Together national office.
