Safer to Come and Go

Ms. Montague is a retiree on disability who has lived in her Raleigh home for more than 20 years. Home maintenance became especially overwhelming after her husband passed away more than a decade ago.

“I try to do what I can,” she told us, “but I was still stuck.”

Her home needed deck repair, ramp repair, railings, flooring, a new exterior door, and plumbing repairs. Our friends with McAdams generously sponsored and volunteered.

Ms. Montague says she’s overjoyed by the changes. She feels safer heading out each morning to her part-time job as a cashier at the local Harris Teeter, which she calls her “senior therapy.”

“I’m just not ready to slow down,” she said, “and these repairs make it safer for me to come and go.”
